Capital, housing, and public works

Developing safe, sustainable housing and modern infrastructure that support the growth, well-being, and future of the Sumas First Nation community.

Building for Tomorrow

Strengthening Our Foundations Through Community Works.

The Capital and Public Works Department manages essential services and leads the construction of community projects for Sumas First Nation. Currently, we are overseeing the Multiplex construction, slated for completion in 2027. We’re also working on upgrading roads, stormwater systems, and wastewater infrastructure, with proposals submitted to Indigenous Services Canada to support safer, more resilient community development.

Guiding Principles for Housing Equity & Accountability.

Our housing program is grounded in fairness, transparency, and respect. We strive to meet basic housing needs, improve living conditions, ensure cost-effective administration, and treat all members equitably. Administrators, Council, and members alike commit to abide by the Housing Policy Manual and maintain clear separation between governance and administration.

  • That Membership is provided assistance in the provision of their basic rental housing needs on reserve.
  • That continuous effort is made to achieve steady improvements in the quality of living on Reserve.
  • That the Semá:th Nation housing program be administered in a cost-effective, service-oriented and accountable manner.
  • That the Band Membership, Council, and Housing Administrator will abide by the Housing Policy Manual.
  • That all members be treated in a fair and equal manner in the distribution of both Residences and Lots.
  • That the members who rent or lease a house from the Band have a responsibility to abide by this Housing Policy Manual.
  • That the administrative infrastructure be separated from the political governance of the Semá:th Nation.

Bringing Principles to Life in Community.

Our commitment extends beyond words—each home built, road repaired, and service delivered reflects our values of fairness, accountability, and dignity. Together, we are shaping a community where every member is supported and respected.
