Finance and IT: Strengthening Our Nation’s Operations

The Finance Department plays a vital role in assisting the Chief and Council to ensure effective, efficient, and accountable operations. Our team provides financial guidance and technological support to all departments, helping them achieve their goals with confidence. The Finance team includes the Finance Manager, Finance Officer, Accounts Payable and Receivable, Payroll, Human Resources, and Information Technology (IT), working together to support the success and sustainability of Sumas First Nation.

Financial Stewardship

The Finance Department provides services to support our community, strengthen accountability, and help every department succeed

  • Financial Planning: The Department provides Chief and Council with a financial planning function through development of budgets, cash flow projections and work plan.
  • Financial Integrity: Finance also serves Chief and Council in the financial integrity function through management of banking, insurance, asset management, investment and borrowing, and audits.
  • Financial Reporting: The Department provides regular financial reporting to Chief and Council, Band Management, Departments, outside funding agencies and Government, Banks and to Membership.
  • Payment Services: Finance supplies payment services to all Departments in the form of vendor payments and payments to employees, students, Members and Social Assistance clients.
  • Collaboration: The Finance Department works with other Departments to administer the revenue function, ensuring that all revenues are collected and properly recorded.
