Background – Sumas First Nation Land Code

In 2008, Sumas Chief and Council signed a Band Council Resolution entering into a Framework Agreement on First Nations Land Management with the Government of Canada. The Framework Agreement on First Nations Land Management is a government-to-government agreement with Canada that allows First Nations to resume and exercise their own jurisdiction, control, and decision making over their reserve lands and resources.
