Dec 14 Update: Abbotsford – Upgraded to an ORANGE Weather Notification

12/14/2025 4:30 PM

Weather conditions expected to move into B.C.’s South Coast are likely to bring heavy rain to parts of the Lower Mainland. Areas of the Fraser Valley may see a prolonged period of rainfall starting Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday evening.

Communities in the central and eastern Fraser Valley — including Chilliwack, Hope, and sections of Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton — could receive approximately 70 to 100 millimetres of rain. Warmer air with this system is expected to raise freezing levels, increasing snowmelt. Combined with already saturated ground, this may lead to higher stream levels and localized flooding.

Those travelling through the region should be prepared for reduced visibility at times, as well as water pooling on roadways and in low-lying areas.

*******Sumas First Nation response crews will be providing 24 hour coverage to monitor water levels overnight******

Dec 13 Update (Sumas First Nation Emergency Management Team)

12/13/2025 8:00 PM

Our Field Response Team continues to work on the ground to protect community safety, support evacuees, and safeguard critical infrastructure. Please see the latest response actions underway:

  1. Kilgard Road Protection The Response: Team successfully protected Kilgard Road from becoming impassable due to floodwaters that were jeopardizing safety, emergency access, and residential driveway access. This was achieved through the deployment of Tiger Dams.
  2. Road Stabilization & Erosion Mitigation: Gravel was brought in and placed along Kilgard Road to address erosion caused by floodwaters and to help stabilize the roadway.
  3. Critical Infrastructure Assessments: Ongoing assessments of critical infrastructure are being conducted to monitor impacts and identify any emerging risks.
  4. Band Administration Office Protection: Tiger Dams have been deployed around the Band Administration Office to provide critical flood protection.
Please note: The Administration Office driveway is not usable at this time. Community members are asked to use the Community Hall driveway until further notice.
  5. Evacuee Support & Re-Registration: Our Emergency Management Team has been actively supporting community evacuees with re-registration through Emergency Support Services (ESS) to ensure continued access to shelter, food, and essential supports.

We remain committed to supporting our displaced members. We thank everyone for their patience, cooperation, and understanding as response operations continue. Further updates will be shared as conditions evolve.
